About the Author
Dr. Beverly Trezek is a licensed Special Education teacher with more than 12 years of teaching experience who holds PreK-12 certification in the areas of Hearing Impairments and Learning Disabilities. In addition to her teacher certifications, Dr. Trezek is also a licensed Visual Phonics trainer. Dr. Trezek served as a consultant on three Federal grants that employed the use of technology to enhance reading, language and vocabulary instruction for children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Her role in these grants included writing grant proposals, assisting with the development of computer technology, designing interventions and test protocols, implementing interventions, collecting data and collaborating with teachers, teacher assistants and administrators in the three states where field-testing occurred. Dr. Trezek has also conducted numerous presentations and training sessions on using innovative instructional strategies, such as Direct Instruction curriculum supplemented by Visual Phonics, to improve reading achievement for students. An article summarizing the results of a study based on her work with these instructional practices was recently published in a prestigious scholarly publication The Journal of Deaf Studies and Deaf Education. Dr. Trezek is continuing this line of research and is currently serving as a Direct Instruction trainer and coach to the Houston Public Schools Hearing Impaired Program in Houston, TX and a Visual Phonics consultant and coach to the Columbus Public Schools Hearing Impaired Program in Columbus, OH. In her position as an Assistant Professor in the Language, Literacy and Specialized Instruction department at DePaul University, Dr. Trezek teaches courses in Reading and Learning Disabilities.

Professor in the School of Teaching and Learning (Integrated Teaching & Learning) in the College of Education at the Ohio State University. One of his major responsibilities is teacher education for individuals interested in the education of deaf and hard of hearing students. Dr. Paul's research interests involve the areas of vocabulary, literacy, and literate thought. Dr. Paul has published extensively on language and literacy development of individuals with severe to profound hearing impairment. His scholarly texts include Education and Deafness (with Stephen P. Quigley), Toward a Psychology of Deafness, and Literacy and Deafness. Dr. Paul (with Stephen P. Quigley and others) has also worked on educational materials, particularly special reading series for deaf and hard of hearing students - Reading Milestones and Reading Bridge. The College of Education at Ohio State University presented Dr. Paul with the 2000 Senior Faculty Research Award for outstanding research in the field of education.

I can't recommend highly enough

This is a very well written summary of research about how students learn to read then what the research means in the deaf ed classroom. I have taught (and learned!) for over 30 years and this is the best, most practical book to support what happens in the real world -- critical when "Research Based" is THE requirement when doing anything in special ed.
Great for pre-service and in-service teachers. I gave a copy to my administrator ;-)

Definitely better than Mirror Sight, but Mirror Sight may have ruined the series

Well, I will say I was exceptionally hesitant to try any more books in this series. Mirror Sight (the previous book in case any of you are new to the series) was a disaster. Nothing short of an absolute disaster. The author took a fantasy series and switched genres for a steam punk novel that accomplished...oh, nothing. I decided to give this series one last shot, and while this book is definitely a vast improvement, I do not know if I'm interested in continuing it. For the record, I normally stick with series all the way to the end, even if I don't enjoy them, as I like the completion satisfaction finishing a series delivers, but Green Rider...well it's no longer what it was.

One of my biggest complaints about this series is the lack of resolutions to a lot of the original plot lines. The wall? Still no progress. A couple books ago at least we were still in the "We can fix it! We can't fix it! We can heal it! We can't heal it! We learned something important! Wait, scratch that...that was a fail too" aspect that, while irritating, at least implied there might be a resolution to that original line (started in book 1 people, we're on book 6). And that's not even the only still open plot line.

A second complaint is Ms. Britain is not a great author at shifting points of view. In fact, she's my absolute least favorite author to do so. And, unfortunately, Firebrand does it a lot. There were an annoying amount of her short point of view shift chapters, that didn't add a ton to the story, and could have easily been cut. Most of those point of view shifts added new thread lines (which, we do not need any more!), but thankfully most of them sort of resolved themselves so maybe a following book will be better (very much doubt this as she's been adding more and more view points each book instead of less). As a result, we see Karigan, but as she is the main character (or was, originally, I don't know if we can say that anymore), I would like to see MORE of her.

While, yes, the book did return to it's main timeline, characters, and just a hint of it's old feel...there is just too much going on, and in a bad way. I like complex books, with multiple characters, races, and events going on, but only when it's done right. I'm starting to feel like Ms. Britain is overextending her ability, and I'd much rather a book with more intense focus on very specific characters than one that feels kind of like a meandering drunk.

And the length for the story we were delivered was too long. With the multiple view points taking away from the feel, rather than adding to it, the book was easily about 300 pages too long. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE long books. It took me only 4 hours to read Firebrand, so it's not the fact it's a long book, but the fact it is a long, very often BORING one. I didn't care about the ice element. I didn't really care about Anna. Navi was not needed. I could care less about Estora (can she please get killed off already?!), and some of the other view point shifts were useful, but I would have preferred them from another source. As a whole the book failed to deliver because there was too much background noise (writing) to make it enjoyable.

Also, let's not forget Karigan is still moping over her "boyfriend from the future" whose existence in the series at all pretty much destroyed it for me. It definitely changed our strong willed heroine, and not in a good way. She mopes over her "loss" of a man she shouldn't have gotten involved with (or remembered, don't even get me started on how Yate's pictures shouldn't exist...huge ball drop on that one, Ms. Britain), and then, to make matters worse. She still mopes over Zachary. Karigan has to be in her 20's now, and she's more of a lovesick child in this book than I find enjoyable. Unfortunately the Zachary/Karigan relationship agenda sort of progresses (which, if you care--I don't-- don't get your hopes up as it's just more of Ms. Britain's teasing) which may be one of the very few things that does.

The ending also was too rushed. The whole book centered around Karigan's mission to find the lost race and try to form an Alliance with them. At the VERY end of the book (I think it was 15 pages) we get an introduction/conclusion all in one short go, which, following the rest of the story, was a huge disappointment. I feel like that section needed to be longer. Or, since it happened basically at the end of the book, something needed to happen after that continued the results of that event. The book is 800 pages - 15 pages dedicated to the whole point of the mission seems a bit stupid.

Enver...I don't even know how to correctly express my lack of interest and frustration with this whole thing. He's just barely interesting, but the interactions with him and Karigan (especially at the end) were just forced, foolish, and really, why in the world would Ms. Britain add that part in?

I also agree with fellow readers: Ms. Britain needs to stop torturing her main character for no reason. I am getting sick and tired of Karigan getting these extensive injuries for really poorly constructed reasons. One or two, fine, as she has a dangerous job, and it would make sense, but we're past that now, and I dislike authors who torture their characters as a cheat to keep the book interesting. Small hint: it doesn't. What it does due is irritate several of us readers, and make us even less inclined to pick up the next book. Given how many other reasons there are not to pick up the next book...it may be best not to add to them. I wouldn't mind Karigan getting injured on occasion for reasons that made sense, but I am sick of her just being forced through situations that feel drastically overwritten/played.

So, yes, this book was better than Mirror Sight. We got back to the original feel (sort of) of the books. Despite that though, it was a huge disappointment, and I am not certain I'm sticking around for 7/8. At this point, I think the series needs a conclusion fast, and I think Ms. Britain's editors need to put a word count cap on her books (for the record, this comes from a reader who generally wants word count restrictions LIFTED) so she might actually resolve more of her plot lines, have less of these random side character point of views, and return even more to the original feel of the series.

A slight disappointment from the earlier works but not a bad read

I have been reading the Green Rider series since the beginning and though this book returned to some of the sense of adventure, comradely and realism of a person going on an adventure its had changed from the original novel. I am rating it based on how it fits with the series. I believe it was done much better than Mirrorsight and Blackvail but I think the first, Green Rider and 1st Rider Call and High Kings Tomb were much better. The author has expanded her way of writing and you can see her improvement in some areas and experimentation in others. Personally I am not a huge fan of the multiple perspective. I also agree with other readers about the abuse the main character is taking, though realistic it does seems too much and I wonder too if the author still likes her hereon. Some things feel rushed such as many of the resolutions for Nari and grandmother. Others are drawn out- Not big on the internal angst for Kari feels like watching Frodo from Lord of the Rings do the Eye thing. I reread the series the week before starting the 6th but any reader would not have to to understand what is going on the author makes references to earlier works and explains the context, sometimes several times to the same reference in the same book. That can be good but it becomes annoying pretty quick and just draws things out particularity when that references has already been mentioned and worst when its a references from earlier in this book. This book doesn't take too long to read, even with putting it down due to irritation with some of the situations and characters. I really like the series to begin with I am not a fan of the recent direction the series has progressed to. I believe some other reviewers said it best with nothing seems to be resolved and though true in life very few things truly end there isn't even a hint of ending for something.
I did like the first half of the Book and that we get to meet the "cat" from the tower. There was a lot of possibilities if we just stayed with that story. Meeting the Aunts again was great too, and some of the internal workings of the world- fleshing out the castle life, Elt behavior, the "cat", revisiting some of the old haunts from the first book, and getting some closer on some of the ghost was nice as well.
I heard a few people upset at the price and I don't believe this to be fully on the author, I believe its the cost of publishing, printing and others fees. I have bought a few other books from other publishers similar in length and size and they are getting closer and closer to the 15 price than the old 6 dollar price tag. And Hard copies are always more than paperbacks. Just look at the New for you section under books on Amazon a lot of them are in the $15-$20.
It was a long wait to get to this point and though I am glad the author has moved away form something I was a bit disappointed from the original style the series started out with. Estral wasn't to only voice silenced in the series and I miss some of that spark and lightheartedness from the beginning.

I read Mirror Sight and stubbornly refused to think Britain was intentionally destroying her amazing series and I was right. This book more than makes up for book 5's failings and is well worth the time it takes to read. When I finished the 800+ pages, my automatic reaction was a strong desire to read another 800 and that is all one can ask for in a book.

A Monumental Important Cookbook!

This cookbook is an education unto itself. If you want to learn about foods that will benefit your health and fitness, then buy this book. The mark of a truly good person is someone who imparts a wisdom in you that you were never aware of. The author, Julie Morris, is an extremely knowledgable and creative food mastermind. Couple this book with her Superfood Smoothies book and you'll have a new path to your own well-being. Brilliant and beautiful book!

Great Healthy Recipes

The author is really great at introducing a very healthy lifestyle with recipes that feature foods filled with Omega-3s, Omega-6s and Omega-9s. the recipes are flavorful and tasty. Some are easier to make than others. Some ingredients can be expensive but it just means that you may have to hunt for more reasonably priced suppliers but the author provides a list of suppliers for some of the ingredients in her recipes. If you are looking for recipes that will provide you with energy and benefit your body from your skin to your hair to your nails, as well as your internal parts then this recipe book should be on your shelf. These recipes are built with very solid and extremely healthy ingredients. If you are looking to improve the quality of your health and if you are looking for energy then this book is for you.

Big fan of Julie's

This was my first Julie Morris book, but I will get them all. Her recipes are creative and very tasty. The book I keep front and center in my kitchen is her Superfood Juice, as I am an avid juicer. Superfood Kitchen fills a hole in kitchens today because it combines healthy and quick. When I get home from work, I am just "done". It is hard to think creatively nor do I want to spend a lot of time preparing. Great book.

GOOD BOOK FOR SPILLWAY/DAM DESIGNERS

I'am a consulting engineer, specialized in dams and hydropower.
Senturk's book is a reference book, especially from a theoretical point of view, on the design of spillways.
The book is not a complete and simple manual, as hydraulic design of spillways from USACE.
However the theoretical aspects are uniquely well developed for very specific cases.
I suggest to buy it if you're designing a spillway.

It contains many incomplete words with symbols

The digital transcription in Spanish is dreadful. Each page takes about misspelling, incomplete word and symbols instead of letters.
The content is very good, however these orthographic errors interfere with a coherent reading.
I would like to read a corrected version of this book, otherwise, I do not think I finalize reading without having frustrated a decent reading.

The product was great, the service provided I can't complaint. this book my dad always wanted, I finally founded. This book talks about the bible, as a kid my dad always talked about it, I recommended for people to get more knowledge on Jesus and I hope they can buy it to see for themselves.

This Particular book is dear to me. I read it when I was a young girl while I lived in a Catholic boarding School in Peru run by Fransican nuns.
I searched looking to find it to read it after many years. I was lucky to find it here.
It's the most compelling history of the live of Jesus not much as the son of God but as a human being and to the people that sorrounded Him.
I bought 4 copies to give it as presents. I wanted to share this memorable history. I still read it from time to time!.
I love it, it takes me back to the days when I was inocent and carefree!

Drug addiction, divorce, miscarriages, infidelity-such is the stuff of gripping biography-but the story of Williams' rise to radio fame is less than the sum of its parts, at least as it's told here. Williams, a deejay on New York R&B and hip-hop station WBLS, is something of a rarity in the industry: a top-rated African-American woman. She relates that she always felt like an outsider: "I was the black girl in a practically all-white school. And among the handful of blacks, I was the 'white girl,' the outcast." But she was sure great things were ahead. "I knew that one day my being different would pay off," she writes. While Williams goes on to explain that her success came through hard work and dedication, she doesn't show the nitty-gritty of her job-how a studio operates, how she came up with her style, what she actually does at work-which is a shortcoming in a book about a radio personality. Instead, Williams offers a very readable but standard-issue confessional autobiography, told in a smooth vernacular; she relates her long-term drug abuse, which began with marijuana in college and progressed to cocaine; her problems with men; her desire for happiness and success. The story might be inspirational for some, but it's not always deeply analytical: her drug use, for example, helps her realize that "getting high with muthafuckas doesn't do anything for you except give people something to talk about or worse. Nobody's going to stick around if something goes down. And nobody's got your back." This is an worthy tale, but it's best suited to serious Williams fans, who will welcome information on her hard-won sobriety, her liposuction and breast implants, her love for her son and her tips for keeping a man.

I'm the same age.

I'm the same age as Wendy. I enjoyed and looked forward to reading this book ; however it was not a page tuner for me. We have had too many of the same experiences. I was like tell me something I don't know. . The only thing I did not know was her the story behind her drug use. It took me awhile to finish this book because it bored me a lot.

Very honest and interesting story.

Definitely a page turner. I grew up listening to Wendy on the radio and I was surprised that her book really revealed a lot. She was upfront about her own story. So surprised to find that when it all comes down to it she was and still is quite a loner. She doesn't seem to have any close friends. Say whatever you want to say about her but no one can deny that she has a great work ethic and she has more than succeeded in her career. I won't judge her choices because I respect her honesty. There was a point in the book that you could tell she was talking directly to her husbands side piece. Lol

Good Book...but...

I really like Wendy Williams so I was looking forward to reading her story. The writing is amateurish and inarticulate and she failed to included photos to support the descriptions that she provides. She describes being fat as a kid, I can't picture it, she describes being really "hot" looking when she went out, I can't picture it, she describes being super skinny while on drugs, I can't picture it, she describes working in the radio station--no photos, I can't picture it, she describes her family growing up, no photos, I can't picture it. Failing to include pictures really diminishes the interest that this book could have had.

Surprisingly good

I must admit I bought this book with certain insecurity. The price tag is a bit high for a "shot in the dark".
After reading it, I am very glad I bought it. It is packed with great advice on the psychology of lying. By demonstrating how the mind of the lier works, and how the interviewer must use that knowledge to his advantage, the book greatly improved my skills, in a practical way. I believe I will use much of this knowledge in my work. I don't recommend buying the kindle version if you intend to read it on your PC, because it is a lengthy book, which you will probably want to annotate a lot. Advantages of the computer apart, I prefer to annotate physical books.
