Nice, straight to the point, good for beginners...

In my opinion, this is a very nice book aimed to any user level (may be not for the fully professional and experienced). It goes straight to the core concepts, the code listings are easy-to-try-and-run and it's a cheap book.
Recommended if you want to have a quick overview or need quick answers. It's not for the fully experienced, remember.

Review for Nitty Gritty Windows Programming with C++

This is a pretty advanced book. It will definitely help if you have a basic understanding of how windows works. I have Windows XP Pro and Visual C++ .net and some of the programs didn't seem to want to work "as advertised". However, there is a TON of information, and it is presented rapid-fire. This is a GREAT book if you are good at extrapolating information. If you need a step-by-step guide (or are just getting started), this book is not for you.

I can't rate this book yet because I have not yet finished using it. I'm still trying to figure out how all the "windows" parts of the C++ program work. (I had to use a step-by-step book to get to that point; however very soon I think I will be able to get back into this book.)

If you plan on getting serious about programming and like to know how stuff works, then this is a good book for you (even if you don't use it right away).

What did it come with:
- E-book of Grant's book

Does the product function like it should?
- Yes it has a number of different tactics on how to close sales and it doesn't have much fluff. Grant tries to explain every point and how to overcome obstacles with these closes

What’s good about them?
- Grant goes over almost every single possible situation that has to do with closing. If you're an aggressive type of salesman who wants to close calls and needs some advice on how to overcome obstacles this is the right way to do it.

What’s bad about them?
- I like Grant's super motivational attitude and ability to get his message across but I don't feel like I'm the type of salesman his book is speaking to. He has an aggressive style, i like to build relationship with my clients more than anything, so some of the stuff works and some doesn't.

Who would i recommend it to?
Anyone who's in sales and wants to read all the diffferent types of closes available, different scenarios you might run into to overcome objections. This is a good book for anyone who's starting sales or even been in sales for a few years but haven't read more about it.

Any other notes?

Conclusion:
- This is a good book, i would recommend this to sales people of any experience. After reading this, it will re-enforce all the closes you already know about but at the same time it will expose you to different ones you may never thought of. The more knowledge you have, the better.

For closers only

Definitely a lot of good material packed into this book. First Grant will work on your mindset, then give you the rules of closing. Be prepared to do some work in memorizing all the closes (over 100) and working them to fit your industry and product.

If you've ever run out of material to overcome objections, this is for you. If you've ever wondered if there are more than the couple closes your manager gave you, this is for you. If you've ever had trouble getting a deal closed, this is for you. You need this book to get your head straight and to get you closing. This is to be read/listened to multiple times and it's highly recommended. Get the book so we can get you closing more, that is what you want isn't it? If you're not going to do it for yourself, do it for me.

Remember , selling only counts if you close the deal!

Another favorite from grant cardone....... Bought the audio book and listen to it in the car, at the office and during the workout...... bout the kindle edition to take notes. Use the closes, make the sale. Bought on Friday, Monday closed a 250k sale, 360k sale on Tuesday. Sold more in one week than most do in 3 months.... Stop asking if you should, this one can make you a milllion!

Ackerman (a professor of religion at Dartmouth) explores the "remarkable assembly of women... and the multitude of roles they play" in the book of Judges. She identifies in Judges six "types" of women's roles that, she asserts, illuminate not only Hebrew Scripture but a breathtaking range of ancient Near Eastern literature that includes Homer and Christian scripture. Each chapter considers one "type," identified with one or more characters who play an identifiable role in Judges. Deborah and Jael, Israel's two great women warriors, play the role of the "military hero" as well as the priestly role of "cult specialist." The role of the queen mother is represented by the mother of Sisera, the commander defeated by Deborah and Jael. Manoh's wife (Samson's mother) fills the more "powerless" role of mothers, wives and daughters in waiting. The largely autonomous role of the prostitute is represented by Delilah, and the daughters of Shiloh represent the role of the "maidens abducted while dancing." Ackerman deftly weaves together literary criticism and historical analysis, and her discussion of one role illuminates the discussion of another. Particularly enlightening is Ackerman's application of literary forms associated with the Canaanite goddesses Anat and Asherah to stories of biblical women warriors and queen mothers ranging from Judith and Jezebel to Mary. This accessible work could reach a broad audience interested in becoming acquainted with the richly textured character of biblical literature.

Challenging reading - but worth it!

Reading this work by Ackerman opened a whole new world to me: the rich variety of women in the Book of Judges. I must admit that I had never really noticed before that almost all of the women in Genesis and in Exodus acted mainly to preserve the life of a male or the continuation of a male lineage. (For example, all those wonderful women in the early chapters of Exodus - Shiphrah, Puah, Miriam, Jochebed, the daughter of the king - were trying to save the life of Moses). But in Judges we encounter a feast of women of all sorts of different types. I must also confess that at times I found Ackerman's interpretations very challenging - both intellectually and spiritually, but the benefits gained by reading this book were worth the challenges.

Interesting conjecture at places, but a bit too dry and repeative.

Susan Ackerman's study of the book of Judges in a feminist light does offer some interesting angles on the familiar(Samson) and the not-so familiar(the shrewd wife that managed the land well). But most of this book was just dry, dense academia that did not capture me. The literary equivilent of fiber; good to read, hard to digest.

Great ideas condensed

At first when I began this book I was concerned it would be too technical, The cover did not reflect what I thought might be in the book, which is a good thing. You'll find a lot of things will be similar to other books you've read and self-improvement topics however this really condenses it quite well. I have indeed applied some of the things I learned from this book and it makes much sense, many of the ideas that you will read about our things I've already crossed your mind before however this to the book texted another step to actually implement these ideas.

Love love love this book. I've purchased so many copies over the years but I always end up giving them to friends. This book will change the way you think - for the better!

In this book, I am presenting the new concept of the Solar Body. What do I mean by this? “Solar Body” refers to someone who creates her own health and happiness by recovering her natural healing power, making herself shine brightly like the sun. The Solar Body isn’t about creating an amazingly muscular physique, or developing an enviably slender waistline. The secret of natural healing power―the heart of the Solar Body concept―is found in a linking of three elements: body temperature, breathing, and the power of the observing mind. When, by concentrating our minds, we feel our body heat and observe our breathing, we recover the desired balance of body temperature, with the head cool and the lower abdomen warm. Breathing naturally grows deeper and slower. The life energy in our bodies is activated and circulates, and our natural healing power manifests best in this state. Great Introduction to Energy Trading

Excellent book which describes how physical constraints significantly impact the trading of electricity and natural gas. It explains the physics behind pipelines and power systems in a fairly accessible way however I imagine it would be quite difficult for people who have never done physics. It introduces risk management and options in an easy to read fashion.

The only reason I gave it four stars is due to the incongruous 20 or so pages in the middle of the book in which the author gives us his significantly misinformed view on renewable energy. I hadn't heard this one before, but apparently wind energy's ability to limit oil imports is seriously offsetted by the need for lubricating oil in the wind turbine.

Two minutes on google tells me that a typical wind turbine (1.5MW) consumes about 100L of oil per year. That's about 1MWh of energy. A wind turbine has a typical capacity factor of 30% which means it would generate approximately 4000MWh of energy per year. Thus the energy used for the lubrication oil is 0.025% of the energy generated.

So my advice is to buy the book but skip chapters 4.5-4.8.

So far... Fantastic!

I'm not done reading this book, but so far it has been a fantastic introduction to the energy markets. Some of the material is repeated over and over, but it only helps reinforce the ideas. There are also some typos, but not to the point of being annoying. If you are looking for a great intro to the energy markets, including some of its physical characteristics (e.g., what it is, where it comes from, how its transported, how it's processed, and where it ends up), then this is the book for you. The author has substantial experience in the energy markets and he wrote this book as something he wishes he had read when he got started.
