List of All Sagas Included

As a student of archaeology and history who plans to make the study of the Medieval Norse the focus of his career, buying this collection of sagas was a no-brainer.
My one gripe is that there is no list (that I could find at least) of which sagas and tales are included in this book, which happens to be some pretty important information for someone who's looking to quickly beef up their library with Norse Literature.
So, in order to save anyone I can some time, and possibly money, I've listed all the sagas and tales included in this book here:

Better then I expected

This book has already provided hours of enjoyable reading for both myself and my 15 year old son and we aren't even half way done. The book consists of 9 complete sagas, and 6 tales, two introductions-- one very in depth, reference maps and images, a short glossary of nordic terms and an index of all the characters involved--a very important addition considering there are sometimes 5 or 6 characters with the same name. Some characters interweive in multiple sagas which I found a fun way of figuring the timing. I was afraid the stories would either be dry like a history book or fantastical and unrealistic like mythology. I was pleasantly surprised, however, to find the tales flow very well, never drag, and are believable and brilliantly practical. Like a well written and researched novel, this book is hard to put down and I find myself mourning when I reach the death scenes of characters I grew to love in each saga: such as the handsome and lucky Ingimund; the violent, ugly, but ultimately loveable Emil Skallagrimsson; and the unwanted slave's-son, Thorkel Thorgrimsson Scratcher, who despite everyone's heckling, grows up to be wise and heroic enough to lead his whole people. If you love imagining Vikings and want a better understanding of their thoughts and ways, this is a fun way to learn more about them and gain insight into the adventurous settling of a small but important nation.

A superb find!

This is a wonderful book and I am happy that I came upon it while browsing on Amazon.com. This book is an appropriate length, not too long or drawn-out, but offers precise and salient information along with wisdom and experience. It highlights all the major aspects of choosing a partner for those who are single and ready to embark on the journey to find love, for those who are currently dating, or perhaps is quite helpful to those who recently experienced a breakup and are taking time off to heal and recompose themselves. I enjoyed reading about the material presented in this book, as it is incredibly useful, and truly can provide great perspective and clarity to the reader. Additionally, this book is well written in terms of using correct grammar, style, and punctuation, and I thank the author and editor for producing high quality content. It is very apparent that the author put in a good amount of time and effort to produce a polished, beneficial, and enjoyable book.

The battle for Leningrad lasted 1,127 days; the city was under siege for 900 of them. Between 1.6 million and two million Soviet citizens died, 800,000 of them civilians―40 percent of the city’s prewar population. This masterfully crafted and assiduously researched book delivers an otherwise underreported side to the WWII seige of Lenningrad. As taken from the diaries of a cross section of people who lived through the seige, the reader is taken on a tour de force through the nightmare that these residents had to endure. A must read for any serious history buff of the era or scholar.

"The War Within" is an account of the true thoughts and feelings of the people of Leningrad as they experienced the dreadful siege from 1941 to 1944. Based upon 125 unpublished diaries of residents of Leningrad which have recently become accessible, it differs considerably from the official accounts, which have always selected and emphasized the heroic aspects of the situation. Under the terrible stess and anxiety of starvation. bombardment, isolation, and the death of a large portion of the population, these individuals considered at the deepest levels their relationships to neighbors, family, government, life - everything. The book is a remarkable study of the human condition. Prof. Peri writes with grace and verve. While treating the diarists with sympathy and insight, she reports on the often harrowing events and reflections unflinchingly. It is fascinating, and thought-provoking, reading.

Great book for Common Core Math 2, Geometry supplemental practice

As a math educator (I have a Ph.D. in math education and run a tutoring center) I am always looking for good books with supplemental practice for students. This is the best book I have found for Common Core Math 2 / Geometry at the high school level. Geometry is a lot of learning vocabulary and theorems and then 1) applying the meaning of those to problems and 2) applying the meaning to proofs. This books has you doing both. For example, you will apply the concept of vertical angles with problems that involve using the definition and algebra to solve for vertical angles and you will do proofs that have you use the concept of vertical angles along with other angle theorems, substitution, transitive property, etc. The book also has open ended questions that have you just think about concepts relating to the problems, this helps students prepare for proofs without actually doing them and would be very helpful for a student who struggles with proofs. My only negative comment is that there are no answers! Therefore, I would suggest that if parents want to get the book for their student, they hire a tutor who can work with the student in this book. I help students prepare for classes over the summer. I teach them concepts, have them work problems in the book, and learn the basics so that when they start their classes in August they have already learned some theorems, applications to the theorems, and how to do proofs. So, as long as you have someone who knows Geometry well enough to check the student's work, this is a great resource for practice and preparation for the class. One other thing I should note is this book is a work book, not a teaching text book. You would need to buy another book to provide you with all the concepts, vocabulary, theorems, and examples to teach from. This book only provides problems.

I was expecting a workbook that my daughter could work on over the summer to prepare her for geometry once school starts. This only contains the math problems. It doesn't introduce or explain any of the concepts and, as others have mentioned, there is no answer key. About the Author
WILLIAM C. HINDS, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the UCLA School of Public Health. His primary research interest is fundamental and applied research related to aerosols and industrial control of airborne contaminants, including respiratory protection. A Diplomate of the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (comprehensive practice) and a Fellow of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, he has published numerous articles on aerosols.

Great for certain audiences

Overall the content in this text is great, the wording is written so a novice will learn lots and even an experienced student will be a little confused. Great for aerosol reference. Love the chapter on respiratory deposition!

I had a tough time with the problems in this book, even though the instructor walked us through lots of the problems. Great for advanced level though expect problems if you are not familiar

Great text on aerosol basics

This is an excellent textbook for aerosol dynamics for anyone interested in learning about airborne particles. It is an extremely relevant book for students (undergraduate and graduate level) and researchers in the field. The book provides a lot of examples that utilizes new equations and all the problems have the final answers provided. In addition to providing fundamental aerosol basics, the author also discusses instruments that are used in the field to collect data on aerosols. Overall, this is an excellent text that covers all the fundamentals of aerosol technology.
