About the Author

Allan C. Ornstein is a professor of education and social policy at St. John's University. He is a former Fulbright-Hayes scholar and author of 60 books. His most recent book is entitled Wealth Vs. Work: How the 1 Percent Victimize 99 Percent.

Edward Frank Pajak is a Professor in the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University. He has published more than 50 articles in prominent journals, most recently in the American Educational Research Journal (2012) and in Teachers College Record (2011), as well as six books. His current scholarship involves the application of psychoanalytic concepts toward better understanding of schools, teaching, culture, and education reform. Professor Pajak’s recent books include: Contemporary Issues in Curriculum, 5th edition, Pearson (2010); Supervising Instruction: Differentiating for Teacher Success, Christopher-Gordon (2008); and Honoring Diverse Teaching Styles: A Guide for Supervisors, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (2003).

Stacey B. Ornstein holds a Masters in History of Education from New York University. She teaches cooking and food policy at various locations around New York City, where she lives with her husband, David, and newborn son Adrian Vir. Her writing has appeared in numerous print and online publications.

Good Book...Too Expensive

This book has some interesting articles that shed some light on current issues in the field of education. However, the price is simply ridiculous. It's a relatively thin book with a soft binding; if it wasn't a required text for my Master's program, I would have gone with something much cheaper or simply looked up scholarly articles on the topics covered in this book.

The content is an objective lense of where our educational system evaluation. This book helped me a great deal to be more informed as I plan curriculum for new schools. I have a very good perspective now of the foundation of curriculum in public education and am better informed to create outcomes that are student centered.

Great. This series while having different authors shares the similarities of quality binding, interesting premises and outstanding content. 7th grade grandson loves them.

Purchased as fun free reading material. So I scanned pages and table of contents but am not going to read a child's book that is for fun enrichment. This series all share a basic format and orientation. Fun time reading. Actual school usage for reports etc... would need other source materials to either confirm or debunk content.

Everyone should own this book!

I've gone through five of this book over the years, they've become so dog-earred and worn, I couldn't red them any more. They are my daily reading ritual. Nothing too heavy and not religious. Just one page each day with a two or three line quote from someone of note. Yesterday, April 2, was Golda Meir. Then a short paragraph about one positive thought for each day. I'm not one who usually goes for these things but this is one I live by and the ones I've given as gifts have meant the world to the ones who received them. Really, GO GET ONE! There are several covers but the book remains the same.

Excellent stuff! If you are not yet familiar

I am very familiar with Hazelden. Excellent stuff! If you are not yet familiar, invest a few dollars. You will not regret it. They are "the cream of the crop" in their particular area of literature. I read the book Twenty-Four Hours a Day every morning.
I purchased this item as a gift for my wife. I think I do a good job with gifts for her, but she never uses any of them. However, she says she loves this book and reads it daily. I highly recommend it for the woman in your life. I'm not getting anything for free or being paid to say this. Scout's honor. It's a great little book.

A Gift to Women....

Hey there! I stumbled upon this book at a secondhand store the first time I owned it . An I found so much inspiration from it that it was really astounding because it's hard to find books like that nowadays . That aren't preachy and know-it-all and telling you how to run your life . Yeah it's book for people who use and abuse and that wasn't me, not to say that I haven't had my share of rough edges in my life but I wasn't there anymore, but I just loved the way it made you feel good in your life every day . But then somebody in my life that was very, very close to me was having a really hard time, so I gave them my copy because they had read some of it and it made them feel good, like they could deal with quitting and finally stop abusing. Then I found I was really missing my book . I was overjoyed to find it here on Amazon because it's a fantastic book! It really makes you feel good as a woman . And you just find the best stuff there in that book . There's just a lot of great things in there that make you feel great and make you feel good and really make you think . I think that it's something that every woman should own personally, it's just really a great book it's not a God thing, it's not drinking thing it's not drug thing it's more of a little bit of everything in it for everybody let's put it that way. I know it's from Hazelden so yeah it's got stuff in it like that, but still it's more of a life affirming thing . So I just really I recommend it to anybody and everybody. I love the book and I would buy it every time I give it out to somebody. and I would always share it because it's a great book . And I would buy it again and again and again . Thanks

About the Author
Brian Spilker (PhD, University of Texas at Austin, 1993) is the Robert Call/Deloitte Professor in the School of Accountancy at Brigham Young University. He teaches taxation in the graduate and undergraduate programs at Brigham Young University. He received both BS (Summa Cum Laude) and MAcc (tax emphasis) degrees from Brigham Young University before working as a tax consultant for Arthur Young & Co. (now Ernst & Young). After his professional work experience, Brian earned his PhD at the University of Texas at Austin. In 1996, he was selected as one of two nationwide recipients of the Price Waterhouse Fellowship in Tax Award. In 1998, he was a winner of the American Taxation Association and Arthur Andersen Teaching Innovation Award for his work in the classroom; he has also been awarded for his use of technology in the classroom at Brigham Young University. Brian researches issues relating to tax information search and professional tax judgment. His research has been published in journals such as The Accounting Review, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Journal of the American Taxation Association, Behavioral Research in Accounting, Journal of Accounting Education, Journal of Corporate Taxation, and Journal of Accountancy.

Ben Ayers (PhD, University of Texas at Austin, 1996) holds the Earl Davis Chair in Taxation and is the dean of the Terry College of Business at the University of Georgia. He received a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin and an MTA and BS from the University of Alabama. Prior to entering the PhD program at the University of Texas, Ben was a tax manager at KPMG in Tampa, Florida, and a contract manager with Complete Health, Inc., in Birmingham, Alabama.

Ben teaches tax planning and research courses in the undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of Georgia. He is the recipient of 11 teaching awards at the school, college, and university levels, including the Richard B. Russell Undergraduate Teaching Award, the highest teaching honor for University of Georgia junior faculty members. His
research interests include the effects of taxation on firm structure, mergers and acquisitions, and capital markets and the effects of accounting information on security returns. He has published articles in journals such as the Accounting Review, Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Contemporary Accounting Research, Review of Accounting Studies, Journal of Law and Economics, Journal of the American Taxation Association, and National Tax Journal. Ben was the 1997 recipient of the American Accounting Association’s Competitive Manuscript Award and the 2003 and 2008 recipient of the American Taxation Association’s Outstanding Manuscript Award.

In this fourth volume of the graphic-novel adaptations of Ann M. Martin’s Baby-Sitters Club books, Claudia and her older sister, Janine, must deal with the changes in their grandmother, Mimi, after she suffers a severe stroke. Creative Claudia doesn’t get good grades in school the way her sister does, and she feels that her family values studious Janine more. However, Claudia doesn’t notice that Janine isn’t too happy when she keeps volunteering to do everything to help Mimi after their grandmother comes home from the hospital to recuperate and relearn how to speak. Meanwhile, the Baby-Sitters Club’s new summer playgroup takes up lots of Claudia’s spare time, and she tries to help her regular club charge, who feels jealous about all the attention his baby sister gets. Telgemeier’s expressive black-and-white art plays a key role in the story here, as much of the interplay between Claudia and Janine is unspoken but clearly shown in their expressions and body language. My 7 year old daughter loves these graphic novel books! She is very excited each time a new one has come out. She is incredibly sad this is the last one Raina Telgemeier is doing. She has read all of her books and really enjoyed them all. We were having a heard time getting her excited about reading until we discovered these books along with her Sister series. We hope she will reconsider and turn more of the baby sitter books into graphic novels.

Claudia is going through many tough times. Mimi got a stroke, she and her sister are fighting endlessly, and the Babysitters Club is having TONS of trouble with the hardest client ever. Jenny Prezziosos. I liked this book a lot because it shows the real pro's and con's of sisterhood. Will Janine and Claudia get over their fighting to help Mimi? Read, and find out.

A Must Have!! Brillant

I don't even know where to begin with Zoomigurumi with a critque. I am so happy with this purchase. The time spent and design is very evident in the pictures and patterns. I love this book! The projects have so much personality -- I was going to say "cute" here but you can already see by the cover photo that they are wonderful. Excellent photos and directions. I am so pleased to have added this book to my library.

Some are cute, but not many. Maybe it's the clothes on the hippos/reindeer. Just don't find them as cute as I thought based on the cover. haha, don't judge a book by its cover. I was going to return, but I didn't buy it with prime, so I might as well keep it for the patterns, I can obviously not make clothing for the animals (scarf pictured on cover is cute). animals in the book: tall bird (with striped blue shirt), aofrementioned hippo, fawn (cute, but unnecessary headband), penguin (adorable), husky, duckling (I'd prefer it not on its feet, weird beak), awful looking panda, cute cow (minus the outfit), front cover hedgehog, "standing" fox which will never stand like that on its own, lamb (pretty cute), turtle, kangaroo with its joey in her pocket (not cute but i think it's the thin nose and tiny eyes, so easy fix, with a lame flower on the head), fox (pretty cute, not in love with the extra white wrinkles to the face- I do like the tiny legs vs large tail and head), scary looking reindeer- he looks ill), Maybe they should have stopped with book 2.

It's Not A Wrap

I absolutely LOVED this book until I got to the end. Oh, did I say the word "end"? I misspoke. There was no end. It was the most disappointing feeling in the world. This woman is one of my most beloved authors, and that is the only reason I give this book 4 stars instead of the 3 stars it probably deserves. 99.9% of the book is engrossing and completely enjoyable. What in the world was the point of not ending this story? Do we have to read the next book to find out what happens in this saga? That is crazy and totally unfair to us readers. I realize this is a series and loyal fans are going to read the next book. I don't necessarily always need a book to wrap everything up in nice package--I have a healthy imagination. But, please, give me a box at least to put the story in. Leaving us hanging was very cruel. I know there were a lot of bad guys who ended up in jail, but, as far as who did what to whom, I am not sure at all. Maybe the author was trying to explain things when she had Decker say (and I am paraphrasing, here) that the cops only find enough proof to lock up the bad guys but don't determine their final fate. I can buy that, but, as a reader, I feel cheated.

Do I think others should read this book? Of course, especially if you are a Decker/Lazarus devotee. But, please, be prepared. It's like the publisher made a mistake and left out the last chapter--or, at the very least, the epilogue. I'm just really disappointed. If this happens again, or it becomes a pattern, I just won't be able to read these books because of the frustration. And that makes me very sad.

Not her best but fun anyway

Here it is. I gave it 4 stars because once again Faye Kellerman has woven a delightful tale - yes, in spite of te gory details - with the usual suspects, characters we have grown to love over the course of so many books. However the plot is a little too loose and the ending is so contrived as to be unsatisfactory. The motives of one of the main villains are not clearly set down, nor the reason he was complicit in one of the crimes, and the circumstances of his arrest are murky. But hey, it's all make believe anyway... hopefully including student lifestyle as describes in the book, drugs, sex, drink and very little study....

Very disappointing.

Very disappointing offering from this author. I always anxiously await her books, and this one was a complete flop. I purchased the hardback, so I felt compelled to read it all-except the last couple of pages. I felt that I had gotten what I needed out of it. My major complaint is that the reading so just so bad. Who wrote this? A 7th grader? I'm not sure if her writing has gotten sloppy and immature or if it is me who may have forgotten her writing style. The writing was so simple and silly, I found myself cringing through most of it. I feel my IQ has gone down a few points after reading this. How it received 4 stars is a mystery to me.
