I love this book! The projects have so much personality -- I was going to say "cute" here but you can already see by the cover photo that they are wonderful. Excellent photos and directions. I am so pleased to have added this book to my library.

Some are cute, but not many. Maybe it's the clothes on the hippos/reindeer. Just don't find them as cute as I thought based on the cover. haha, don't judge a book by its cover. I was going to return, but I didn't buy it with prime, so I might as well keep it for the patterns, I can obviously not make clothing for the animals (scarf pictured on cover is cute). animals in the book: tall bird (with striped blue shirt), aofrementioned hippo, fawn (cute, but unnecessary headband), penguin (adorable), husky, duckling (I'd prefer it not on its feet, weird beak), awful looking panda, cute cow (minus the outfit), front cover hedgehog, "standing" fox which will never stand like that on its own, lamb (pretty cute), turtle, kangaroo with its joey in her pocket (not cute but i think it's the thin nose and tiny eyes, so easy fix, with a lame flower on the head), fox (pretty cute, not in love with the extra white wrinkles to the face- I do like the tiny legs vs large tail and head), scary looking reindeer- he looks ill), Maybe they should have stopped with book 2.

It's Not A Wrap

I absolutely LOVED this book until I got to the end. Oh, did I say the word "end"? I misspoke. There was no end. It was the most disappointing feeling in the world. This woman is one of my most beloved authors, and that is the only reason I give this book 4 stars instead of the 3 stars it probably deserves. 99.9% of the book is engrossing and completely enjoyable. What in the world was the point of not ending this story? Do we have to read the next book to find out what happens in this saga? That is crazy and totally unfair to us readers. I realize this is a series and loyal fans are going to read the next book. I don't necessarily always need a book to wrap everything up in nice package--I have a healthy imagination. But, please, give me a box at least to put the story in. Leaving us hanging was very cruel. I know there were a lot of bad guys who ended up in jail, but, as far as who did what to whom, I am not sure at all. Maybe the author was trying to explain things when she had Decker say (and I am paraphrasing, here) that the cops only find enough proof to lock up the bad guys but don't determine their final fate. I can buy that, but, as a reader, I feel cheated.

Do I think others should read this book? Of course, especially if you are a Decker/Lazarus devotee. But, please, be prepared. It's like the publisher made a mistake and left out the last chapter--or, at the very least, the epilogue. I'm just really disappointed. If this happens again, or it becomes a pattern, I just won't be able to read these books because of the frustration. And that makes me very sad.

Not her best but fun anyway

Here it is. I gave it 4 stars because once again Faye Kellerman has woven a delightful tale - yes, in spite of te gory details - with the usual suspects, characters we have grown to love over the course of so many books. However the plot is a little too loose and the ending is so contrived as to be unsatisfactory. The motives of one of the main villains are not clearly set down, nor the reason he was complicit in one of the crimes, and the circumstances of his arrest are murky. But hey, it's all make believe anyway... hopefully including student lifestyle as describes in the book, drugs, sex, drink and very little study....

Very disappointing.

Very disappointing offering from this author. I always anxiously await her books, and this one was a complete flop. I purchased the hardback, so I felt compelled to read it all-except the last couple of pages. I felt that I had gotten what I needed out of it. My major complaint is that the reading so just so bad. Who wrote this? A 7th grader? I'm not sure if her writing has gotten sloppy and immature or if it is me who may have forgotten her writing style. The writing was so simple and silly, I found myself cringing through most of it. I feel my IQ has gone down a few points after reading this. How it received 4 stars is a mystery to me.

Rev. Kenneth Baker, S.J. served for thirty years as editor of the Homiletic & Pastoral Review. In 1975 he became president of Catholic Views Broadcasts, Inc., which produces a weekly 15-minute radio program that airs on 50 stations across the United States; he has also built and run three community television stations. The other volumes in this series are Fundamentals of Catholicism, Vol. 1: Creed, Commandments and Fundamentals of Catholicism, Vol. 2: God, Trinity, Creation, Christ, Mary.

He explains, "Predestination ... formally exists in the divine mind and will... The traditional doctrine that God has predestined certain men to eternal salvation is proposed by the ordinary and universal teaching of the Church as a truth of revelation. This doctrine has been taught by numerous councils of the Church, including the Council of Trent... The problem of divine predestination is a great mystery. On the one hand, we know that God knows all things---past, present and future. Before he creates each one of us he knows infallibly whether we will be saved or lost for all eternity... The main difficulty in the doctrine of predestination is whether God's eternal decree has been taken with or without consideration of human freedom. If it is taken in view of his foreknowledge of a person's merits or free response to grace, it seems to make God dependent on the actions of creatures. If it is taken independently of the preknown merits of a particular person, then it seems to imply that God not only positively wills the salvation of the elect, but also that he positively wills the damnation of certain persons---a false doctrine that was taught by John Calvin and has been repudiated by the Church as heresy. Numerous theories have been worked out... in the attempt to reconcile God's goodness and omnipotence with human freedom. All of them admit, however... that predestination is an unfathomable mystery." (Pg. 45-47)

He also acknowledges, "The fact is that some grace is successful and some is not. The obstacle is the perverse human will. But, one might ask, if God is omnipotent and if he knows all things, why does He not give only efficacious grace and so bring it about that no one goes to hell and all go to heaven? I cannot give a clear answer to that question; I wish I could. The reason is that it involves the mystery of human free will." (Pg. 51)

He states, "there is no higher spiritual judge on earth than the pope. He has the right to decide all Church disputes. For the same reason, there is no right of appeal from a decision of the Holy Father to a higher court. No such court exists, not even a General Council. These points were all clearly spelled out by the First Vatican Council in 1870." (Pg. 116)

He again deals with Limbo: "since 1900 there have been a number of Catholic theologians who have proposed ways in which unbaptized infants might be saved... Not satisfied with Limbo as a solution to the problem... They respect the necessity of Baptism, but at the same time they deny the existence of Limbo... This whole matter is still very much an open question with regard to the doctrine of the Church. The Church has never officially endorsed the existence of Limbo, even though it has appeared often in Catholic catechisms. On the other hand, there are those who want to hold for the eternal salvation of all unbaptized infants who die without Baptism. This solution... was sharply rebuked by Pope Pius XII... Accordingly the common solution still remains: Such infants are in Limbo, a place where they suffer the pain of loss because of original sin but are immune from the pain of sense." (Pg. 207)

Baker’s book is an excellent “mainstream” (relatively conservative) and clear presentation of Catholic teachings.

A good addition to any photographer's book collection

A somewhat dated but still useful guide to photography of a wide variety of subjects in a wide variety of conditions. Absolute beginners may find it a little overwhelming, but perseverance will definitely pay off. I think the best way to read the book it to use the author's photography suggestions as examples: Don't try to remember everything he said, try to understand why he said it. It's this learn-by-example approach that is the real strength of the book.

How to Photograph Absolutely Everything, by Tom Ang, really does exactly that, and does it from a very fine photographers point of view. He starts the book with the basics - as he sees them. It looks like he is simply revealing his own personal photo style so that the reader can copy him. If readers can actually copy him they are sure to make really good pictures. What is more likely to happen is that readers will make adjustments to create a style of their own.

Every piece of instruction, in every section of the book, is illustrated with excellent photographs. The sections are titled: (1)Elements of Photography; (2)People; (3)Landscapes and Nature; (4)Animals; (5)Architecture; (6)Events; (7)Artistic Expression; and (8)Other Applications. Some pictures, mainly in section one, are simply clear, sharp, and properly exposed photo illustrations. But in every other section he uses really wonderful and inspiring pictures. This makes learning much easier.

The books approach is well organized, perfectly illustrated, and certainly correct in every way. Every beginner should start here. Most serious amateurs will also find much in this book to improve their own techniques. And in my opinion, it contains some photographs, and a technique or two, that would be of interest to professionals. I'm very impressed with the wide diversity and high quality of Tom Ang's photographs.

Learning everything in this book probably will not make anyone a great professional photographer. That will take years of practice. But this book sure will get beginners off to a great start.

I gave it to my 8 year-old niece. She ...

I gave it to my 8 year-old niece. She likes it. It can be a little difficult to read for lack of sufficient white space. This is not a damnation of it though; the lack of white space results from so much information being contained. Adequate white space would require 1,000 pages or more. The photographs were taken with a point-and-shoot camera; but even though it isn't in the title, that is one point of the book - showing most people how to shoot most photographs in most situations they will encounter with equipment that most people will have.

A MUST if you're planning on adventuring while in hawaii!

My husband and I were planning on going to the big island and, although we had a GPS, I wanted a map that we would use to mark the places we wanted to go while we were on the plane (something to do to pass the 10 hours in the air! :) this map turned out to be a Godsend! we were on the Big Island for 8 days and wore this map out! we did a lot of touristing and this map was really helpful! Not only did it show towns, roads, etc., it also showed points of interest that came in very handy! It also showed the lava flows and gave the dates of them. If you're going to the Big Island and plan on doing some adventuring, this is a great map to get! We also got one for Oahu, which was very helpful on that island as well.

Good quality, but another maybe better.

This is a high quality plastic map with great detail. Another map that I purchased at the same time, however, the
"Hawaii Travel Map" (National Geographic Adventure Map), is also plastic and good quality, AND is a little easier to read and, in addition, has all of the islands.

From a map junkie: this is an EXCELLENT map

Bought this for our first visit to the Big Island. We circled the island, hiking here and there and visiting beaches and parks, and this was the ONLY map we needed. Everything is shown here, from the major roads to the minor ones, with enough magnification of the cities to find your way around easily. All of the beaches and state parks are shown as well as museums and historical sites and even some touristy stuff like where the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut visitor center is located :)
Even better: natural features not shown elsewhere, like the dates of the lava flows you're driving over and the elevations of mountains and towns.
Recommendation: Get this and the book "Hawaii, the Big Island Trailblazer" and you'll have all you need to have a heckuva good trip!

About the Author
Francine Rivers began her literary career at the University of Nevada, Reno, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and journalism. Absolutely the best series written-both secular and religious.

I'm in total awe of this incredible novel/series that spoke the "true gospel of Christ-love and gentleness". Basically, spreading the "Good News of Jesus Christ". If you listen to a person who knows Christ yet walk away feeling like your sins are more the issue, that person doesn't know God's true message of His love and Him for that matter.
This author leaves me in such wonder and whether you're a man or woman, Christian or not, there is something there for everybody in these three books. If you are to "take a break from the three, my advice is read 1&2 back to back and a couple of days for the third one). You'll loose out on details.
It's not based religious rhetoric or fear (opposite) and especially fire and brim stone, but about the true message of "how" to live in this world with morals and if you are a Christian, the Way! Great wisdom to be had for people who seek to understand the Bible better, love stories and marriage realities not typically found in any book. Further,
this particular book may help men in manhood and women who struggle with men they love who are struggling with pride. Balance in love, not torture, but great delight.

I loved this series greater than anything I have ever read and I have read not just "Christian "books. Mainly, literary.

I'll be the first to admit that the Christian market needs help in the name of interesting books. You will not be lacking that in this series! Personally, I'm tired of The Amish, knitting Christian novels lacking vocabulary or higher intellectual writing and thought. However, this book/series will brand your mind long after the pages have been closed. Sadly because it's over!

Great conclusion for a magnificent series!

Rivers completes her Mark of the Lion trilogy by further developing the character of Atretes who was pivotal in the life of Julia in book 2. Like the first two in the series, the historical setting of ancient Rome and its surrounding regions is vivid and engaging. Against this backdrop, freed gladiator Atretes seeks to set up an elaborate home for his beloved Julia only to find nothing but betrayal. Into his subsequent depression and mounting anger arrives gentle Rizpah and her fatherless child. The path that follows takes these very different people into the wilds of Germania on a quest for home, hope, and happiness in a way that will leave the reader satisfied.

This series as a whole is 5 stars for me. This book picks up with Atretes where we left him in the first book. The events happen pretty much in parallel to the events of the 2nd book so we get no further updates on Hadassah and Marcus. There are so many moments in this book I love. Many times Atretes and Rizpah reminded me of Beast and Belle, especially the scenes in the beginning in Atretes villa. It was emotional and comical at the same time. I thought that the last quarter of the book ran a little slow and then the climax and resolution seemed a little rushed. I didn't have the same heart wrenching emotions at the end of this book as I did with the first two, but I still really enjoyed and appreciated this story and the characters' development. This series is powerful and beautiful and I enjoyed the journey. It has made me reflect on my relationship with Christ and I thank Francine Rivers for that.

Not your average self help guide

Don't be deceived by the size of this book. It contains a wealth of practical advice for making your dreams become your reality. Since both authors are indeed living their dreams, they're well qualified to explain how to do it.

The authors advise reading the book all the way through first, to get a feel for what it is they are doing, and then going back and focusing on each chapter one by one. I found this to be good advice. Some of the methods they describe may be very unfamiliar at first, so it's worth re-reading the instructions and then trying out each technique for yourself to get the hang of it.

To get the most out of this book you will need to approach it with an open mind and a willingness to overcome inertia. You may need to learn something new (like mind mapping). But the success stories of the book's four "heroes" and its two authors will show you that it can be done. Those people put the method to the test and overcame a lot of obstacles to achieve their dreams.

My only quibbles are that (1) the book is written in UK English and the style may take some getting used to, for people who speak and read other English dialects, and (2) some of the techniques can really only be fully understood if you try them for yourself. The illustrations will help, but you really have to do it to learn it.

The push we need to get started

I found this book an excellent motivation to start turning ideas and wishes into action.

It's not a pie-in-the-sky exercise in new-age, aspirational, life-affirming messages but a call to action with positive practical tips seasoned with and some straight talking too:

"Firstly, analyze how you use your time. All of us have wasted time in our lives. Isn't your dream more important than watching TV or going to the cinema?"

"Never do nothing because you think: "oh I need three months to do this but I never have three months free"".

"Am I doing the work?It does not make sense to lie to yourself...are you making real, measurable progress in doing the work you've drawn up for yourself?"

There are three case studies which are visited in each chapter of the book - the case studies reinforce the practical tips, suggestions, ideas and techniques. The case studies tackle problems that are encountered, and how they are resolved.

Not long after starting this book I had an exercise book out (I bought I nice one specially) mapping projects that I had in mind. I've started taking action opportunistically when I have the time, and I am already making progress.

This is a great book to get you started on things you want to do, and sticking with them by not starting too many things at once.

A great book, once you start reading it's difficult to put down. Whether you already have your dream, or just the realization that you need one, the advice and ideas help you to give it substance. In doing so you're encouraged to face up to the challenges - after that it's up to you whether to jump, or not.

The four real life examples give insights as to how dreams have taken flight, and inspire you that it can be done.
